A Good Ride!
A sunny day and time to satisfy Jan's need for a ride.
...... So we headed out to a local stables. Jasper Riding Stables has about 40 horses in the yard that they can call on to take people out and a further 60 in reserve.
Oh, and another 3 - but Jan said she couldn't last an hour on one of these:
Incidentally, this reminds me of that Michael McIntyre observation; 'why do they call it Horseback Riding?
What other part of a horse do they think you can ride?'.
Anyway, hatted and mounted on 'Reno', she headed out on the trail and apparently had a fantastic time.
Western style riding is very different to the English style, being far more comfortable, but Jan still ached a little from the experience. Not too much though to prevent her from enjoying the remainder of the day which we spent with a picnic on a wodden 'pontoon' on Annette Lake (close by) followed by a walk around the lake and visit to Edith Lake.
Evening in town was looking a good option, so we proceeded to venture to where we thought we might pick-up a little souvenier but it seems we ended up at the 'wong' place!
Which brings me to another sad fact. Some 70% of the gift shops here seem to be owned/managed by Chinese. I have absolutely nothing against our Asian bretheren, but if you are looking for a little something that is typically Canadian, it's a bit of a waste of time visiting one of these shops as everything is 'made in China'. But perhaps that's the whole point now - that something Chinese IS typically Canadian?
