West Yellowstone
Yellowstone park is stunning as we mentioned in our last blog post, but it would not be right to leave without setting down a few comments about the town itself.

To be honest we were pleasantly surprised. West Yellowstone has managed to retain a sense of being a quaint small town. Of course, there are numerous hotels and inns (nothing high-rise thank goodness) dotted around but everything by way of local stores, bars and restaurants are centrally located with the only overt concession to gaudy commercialism being a McDonalds just on the western edge of town.

Was it a 'moostake' getting Jan in the picture?

The other comment we really think we need to make is that we were blown-over by the friendliness of everyone we met and chatted to whether it be Mark & Pat at the Stagecoach, the owner of the knife shop, the man managing the booth at which we purchased our pass for the park or the staff at the Three Bear Lodge & Restaurant.

We appreciate it's still very early season for you guys but you are a credit to the US tourism industry!

In Yellowstone, the work ethic seems clear:

Lastly, we felt six nights in Yellowstone was just about right given not all of the park was open. That gave us three days in the park itself and a couple of days to 'get the feel' of the place. Aside from the park, there is the Union & Pacific Railroad museum and a 'Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Centre'. We visited the latter for some close-up viewing:

It's worth just mentioning, we were so very luck to see a Grizzly mom with her three cubs in the park on two consecutive days:

Ahhhhhhh...........

So, signing off for now as we have a very long journey ahead of us in the morning.
